God is Able - Hillsong (God is Able 2011)

I'm not sure I first heard this song, it's such a very wonderful song. By the way, this is God is Able by Hillsong on their latest album "God is Able (2011)".

Hillsong – God is Able Lyrics
[Verse 1]
God is able
He will never fail
He is almighty God
Greater than all we seek
Greater than all we ask
He has done great things
[Chorus]
Lifted up
He defeated the grave
Raised to life
Our God is able
In His name
We overcome
For the Lord
Our God is able
[Verse 2]
God is with us
God is on our side
He will make a way
Far above all we know
Far above all we hope
He has done great things
[Chorus]
Lifted up
He defeated the grave
Raised to life
Our God is able
In His name
We overcome
For the Lord
Our God is able
[Bridge]
God is with us
He will go before
He will never leave us
He will never leave us
God is for us
He has open arms
He will never fail us
He will never fail us
[Chorus x2]
Lifted up
He defeated the grave
Raised to life
Our God is able
In His name
We overcome
For the Lord
Our God is able
For the Lord
Our God is able
For the Lord
Our God is able

1st Reborn Youth Anniversary - The Start of a Revolution

We've got full house!
July 24, 2011 - We, the LWCC Reborn Youth, had celebrated our first year in the ministry God given us! We have experienced so much difficulties during the preparation but the enemy cannot hinder the presence of God from falling fresh on us! The multipurpose hall was filled with youth from different places here in Manila - most visitors were unbelievers who surrendered their lives to God that night. This is an incredible experience to all of us here in Reborn. Pastor Delia Dalby shared a strong message that night and the worship team led the worship with incredible passion. There are also special presentations and dance numbers from different departments of the youth. Everyone has felt the presence of the Lord. Everything was worth the hardship. Glory to God and happy 1st anniversary Reborn!

Club Worship/DJ Led Worship (Get Tha' Boom Up Ya'll!)

DJ Led Worship or Club Worship is a disco styled worship experience.

What is the history behind Club Worship how did it get started?

Jeff Stoltzfus and friends from Zion Mennonite Youth Group talked for years about organizing a Christian rave. In the fall of 99 they finally did it. In the beginning of 2000 the Lord was moving powerfully in some youth in the region, and the concept for Club Worship was birthed. The Pipeline, a group of youth on fire for Jesus Christ, became the organization that would back the whole thing. Jon Carlson worked like mad to help get a web site up, get a spot on television, and help get all the equipment together to do Club Worship. Shauna Nefos, and Dave Speers were also key people early on who really made Club Worship happen. Jose Diaz & Josh Gable got involved early on, especially in giving spiritual support through The Pipeline.

Today, so many volunteers work together to help an event like this run smoothly. Setup includes lighting, sound, sales and lots of running cables, and hauling heavy stuff around. People also volunteer behind the scenes to promote and facilitate the whole thing.

Isn't Dancing wrong?

Well sometimes it is... depending how it is done.
MTV, and our culture has twisted dance into being a sexual thing. As you look down through history, you will see many forms of dancing in different cultures. Irish people dance a certain way, as do Africans, or people from Taiwan. The Scriptures are clear that dance was a part of worship to God, and just a fun part of the Jewish culture.
Traditionally and historically people dance in groups as a performance, just for fun - freestyle, together with the opposite sex, or in worship to a variety of different gods.
Dirty Dancing has become very popular in the last several decades. Club Worship strongly discourages activity that even hints at this sensual style of dance. We also discourage dancing with a partner. Our desire is that everyone will be able to avoid the distractions of the people around them, and be able to focus on God. Its all about what Jesus has done for us... we want to give Him ALL the praise.

What are some scriptures that talk about Dancing?

-----------
ECC 3:4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
-----------
JER 31:3 The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying:
"I have loved you with an everlasting love;
I have drawn you with loving-kindness.
JER 31:4 I will build you up again
and you will be rebuilt, O Virgin Israel.
Again you will take up your tambourines
and go out to dance with the joyful.
-----------
JER 31:12 They will come and shout for joy on the heights of Zion;
they will rejoice in the bounty of the LORD--
the grain, the new wine and the oil,
the young of the flocks and herds.
They will be like a well-watered garden,
and they will sorrow no more.
JER 31:13 Then maidens will dance and be glad,
young men and old as well.
I will turn their mourning into gladness;
I will give them comfort and joy instead of sorrow.
JER 31:14 I will satisfy the priests with abundance,
and my people will be filled with my bounty,"
declares the LORD.
-----------
An interesting story
2 SA 6:12 So David went down and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with rejoicing. [13] When those who were carrying the ark of the LORD had taken six steps, he sacrificed a bull and a fattened calf. [14] David, wearing a linen ephod, danced before the LORD with all his might, [15] while he and the entire house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouts and the sound of trumpets.
2SA 6:16 As the ark of the LORD was entering the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul watched from a window. And when she saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD, she despised him in her heart.
2SA 6:17 They brought the ark of the LORD and set it in its place inside the tent that David had pitched for it, and David sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings before the LORD. [18] After he had finished sacrificing the burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD Almighty. [19] Then he gave a loaf of bread, a cake of dates and a cake of raisins to each person in the whole crowd of Israelites, both men and women. And all the people went to their homes.
2SA 6:20 When David returned home to bless his household, Michal daughter of Saul came out to meet him and said, "How the king of Israel has distinguished himself today, disrobing in the sight of the slave girls of his servants as any vulgar fellow would!"
2SA 6:21 David said to Michal, "It was before the LORD, who chose me rather than your father or anyone from his house when he appointed me ruler over the LORD's people Israel--I will celebrate before the LORD. [22] I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor."
2SA 6:23 And Michal daughter of Saul had no children to the day of her death.
the moral of the story?? Be careful if you are criticizing others for how they worship the Lord. Michal was struck barren because of her criticism. If it is a true and honest worship, the Lord loves it!
-----------
[20] Then Miriam the prophetess, Aaron's sister, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women followed her, with tambourines and dancing. [21] Miriam sang to them:
"Sing to the LORD,
for he is highly exalted.
The horse and its rider
he has hurled into the sea."
-----------
PS 30:11 You turned my wailing into dancing;
you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,
PS 30:12 that my heart may sing to you and not be silent.
O LORD my God, I will give you thanks forever.
-----------
PS 149:1 Sing to the LORD a new song,
his praise in the assembly of the saints.
PS 149:2 Let Israel rejoice in their Maker;
let the people of Zion be glad in their King.
PS 149:3 Let them praise his name with dancing
and make music to him with tambourine and harp.
PS 149:4 For the LORD takes delight in his people;
he crowns the humble with salvation.
-----------
PS 150:1 Praise the LORD.
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens.
PS 150:2 Praise him for his acts of power;
praise him for his surpassing greatness.
PS 150:3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise him with the harp and lyre,
PS 150:4 praise him with tambourine and dancing,
praise him with the strings and flute,
PS 150:5 praise him with the clash of cymbals,
praise him with resounding cymbals.
PS 150:6 Let everything that has breath praise the LORD.
Praise the LORD.
-----------
Jesus speaking the parable commonly known as "the prodigal son"
LK 15:25 "Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. When he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. [26] So he called one of the servants and asked him what was going on. [27] `Your brother has come,' he replied, `and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.'
later...
LK 15:31 " `My son,' the father said, `you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. [32] But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' "
the moral of the story?? If you get the story, Father God rejoices when his children come back to him... there is probably music and dancing in heaven... God probably dances when the backslidden are restored.

Jason Upton's Angelic Testimony on the Song "Fly"

Now here's a really cool testimony about angels singing with people in worship. Jason Upton is an American Christian singer, songwriter and musician and he even has his own record label Key of David Ministries. During a tour at a college auditorium, when singing the song Fly, there was these angelic voices singing with him very audibly while he was the only one singing (without the backup singers). The testimony is on the first video after the break, and the recording at the second one. And by the way, it is not Jason who is speaking on the testimony, I believe he is one of his team.

Passion Manila 2010 (Chris Tomlin, Louie Giglio, Kristian Stanfill)

PASSION CONFERENCE is back in Manila again!  See Chris Tomlin, Louie Giglio and Kristian Stanfill live at the Big Dome! This is their second time around here in the Philippines! Hurry and grab your tickets for only P200.00 in all sections (Lower box and Upper box)! A great worship experience. TICKETS ARE BEING SOLD OUT FAST!!!

Passion believes in university students and in the “university moment,” that window of life where many young people forge their identity and set the trajectory of their lives. And we believe these students are uniquely poised to shape the future and help achieve a more hopeful outcome for humanity.

As well, we believe in cities, massive urban centers that not only provide the best opportunity for the Gospel to impact culture, but house the greatest concentration of university students on the planet. For many, the great global cities are only about commerce, industry, political might, fashion, history and design. Yet, the leading urban centers of the world are also “university towns,” places like NYC, Los Angeles, London, and Kyiv, cities where more than one million university students call home.

Thus, in 2010 Passion will be returning to seven cities, hosting gatherings for university-aged young people in Kyiv, London, São Paulo, Vancouver, Manila, Tokyo and Hong Kong. While we would love to revisit all seventeen cities from 2008, we are excited to be back with friends in these seven nations, inspiring students to love Jesus and to live to make Him famous in this generation.

There’s no doubt our message is loudest when Believers are united, and best received when our words turn into action to touch the world in Jesus’ name. So join us in the city nearest you and, in the mean time, help spread the word.

The wave is growing into a global awakening. Join the movement for His renown.

Be The Music

by Kenny on guitarpraise.blogspot.com

William Congreve once wrote (in The Mourning Bride, 1697) that "Music has charms to sooth a savage beast".

This is also reflected in the Bible, where "whenever the spirit from God came upon Saul, David would take his harp and play. Then relief would come to Saul; he would feel better, and the evil spirit would leave him" (1 Sam 16:23). While the Bible doesn't exactly describe the process of what happened, a good guess would be that:
i) David's worship unto God set an example for Saul to focused on God.
ii) David's music soothed Saul's emotions and gave him the inner strength to reject the spirit.

It is on (ii) that I'll briefly expand on.

I once thought about what art was, and my definition was that art (including music) was a medium that affected emotions through the senses. We might feel inspired when faced with a majestic painting; we might feel a warmth inside while enjoying the graceful moves of a dance. Similarly, music reaches deep into our emotions through sound. For example, no horror flick can ever create the necessary tension without sound (e.g. the 'Psycho' music as the killer walks into the bathroom, or the music that comes on when Jaws reaches its victims).

Hence, in the context of worship, music evokes feelings of wonder, of peace; it can uplift the wearisome spirit, it can instill feelings of hope into the downcast. But this is not an end in itself - it is by breaking down negative feelings that the worshiper becomes prepared emotionally to praise God, to receive God's word, to come into God's presence.

As worship musicians, it is our job to create music that fulfills this purpose. But music, saturated with positive emotions, does not appear out of mid-air, and neither is it carried by the chords and notes of a song. The feelings that music carries comes from the musicians themselves.

For example, Tommy Emmanuel once shared how while listening to Chet Akins' music, he felt that he knew and understood Chet, as the music was infused with Chet's personality. While listening to great music from artistes like Tommy Emmanuel and Marit Larsen, I get the feeling that I am introduced to the artistes as the music is them.

A badminton coach I met once remarked that the ratchet is not a tool, but an extension of the player's arm. Likewise, music isn't just soundwaves bouncing around, but an extension of you, of your worship, your feelings, your personality even. Returning to the David, I believe that David's music was likewise an extension of his dedication and loyalty towards God, and this positive model influenced Saul through music, better than any prep talk could.

Hence you need to ask yourself:
i) To what extent can you make a song become an extension of your personal worship, your feelings, your personality?
ii) Is the result conducive to worship? It will only be if your walk with God is close, & if you are worshiping on stage.

Encountering God

We sometimes talk about encountering God, and bringing God's presence to the congregation during worship. A free worship session, for instance, allows worshippers to talk to God, with the worship leader’s teaching, the music, the lighting etc. creating a favourable environment. As the musicians translate their worship, emotions, and personal encounter with God to music on stage, it is important for them to better understand what the Bible says about encountering God.

For this we look at John’s and Isaiah’s personal encounters with God. John, God's mouthpiece in Revelation, was exiled on the island of Patmos, where he then heard a "loud voice like a trumpet" (Rev 1:10) behind him - it was Jesus. The book of Isaiah does not mention the circumstances in which Isaiah encountered God, only that he “saw the Lord seated on a throne…” (Isaiah 6:1).

The Awesome God
What John and Isaiah saw were nothing short of majestic:

And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, and among the lampstands was someone "like a son of man,"dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. In his right hand he held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance. (Rev 1:12-16).

I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory." At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke. (Isaiah 6: 1-4)

God is certainly awesome, powerful, and mighty. In Rev 7:12 a worship song goes "Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever". These are descriptions of awesomeness, befitting the Creator of the heavens and earth.

But sometimes we take God's presence lightly when we worship Him. For example, we sometimes worship God to ask Him for something. We worship Him with an image of Santa Claus in our heads. Instead, we must recognise that He is the King of Kings, the Almighty One, seated on high.

Responding in Humility
When we come face to face with God’s splendour, we also look inwards, and realise how short we fall of God’s glory:

When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead” (Rev 1:17).

"Woe to me!" I cried. "I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty" (Isaiah 6:5).

Encountering God, we are faced not only with His mighty presence, but also see our own inadequacies in the light of His holiness. We cannot see God and live because of our sin; we can only fall onto the floor and beg for forgiveness. Just as Jesus taught in the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector, we need to be humble before God.

Jesus told this parable: "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.'

"But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.'

"I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted” (Luke 18: 9-14).

Receiving Grace
Faced with God, we encounter God’s glory and power, and humble ourselves before Him. In response, God reaches down, touches us, and cleanses us from our sin.

With John, Jesus personally touched him, and comforted him: "then he placed his right hand on me and said: 'Do not be afraid...'" (Rev 1:18). With Isaiah, God forgave his sins: "Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, 'See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for'" (Isaiah 6: 6-7)

Facing an awesome God, we also face our sins, but yet by God's grace He chooses to forgive us and restore the relationship with us. It is a two-way interaction, we fall to the ground pleading for mercy, and God, in all His power and holiness, reaches down to us, picks us up and forgives us. This is truly a God of love.

Final Remarks
Worship is one place where we talk alot about encountering God. We allocate time for free worship, to allow the congregation to come face to face with God. From John's and Isaiah’s encounters with God, we realise that facing God entails i) a recognition of God's awesomeness, ii) humbling ourselves in our inadequacies, iii) allowing God to come and touch, forgive, and restore us. This is what an encounter with God truly means.

Worship in the Book of Revelation

Revelation is not only a "doomsday" book, but it also offers an insight into what worship is like in heaven, and will be like in the future. In Revelation 4, John is brought up into the presence of God in heaven, and what he sees is nothing short of God's powerful majesty, splendor, and glory. In particular, he sees the multitudes worshipping God, and we are given the exact words sung. Here are two examples:

"Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!" (Rev 5:12)

"Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen!" (Rev 7:12)

There is one particular pattern to these, and all the other songs in Revelation, that is, the lack of the word "I". There is no reference to the self, not even phrases resembling "thank You for what You have done for me", nor "I will praise you with my lips". Everything is about God in worship, because faced with His overwhelming presence, all you can do is to give Him praise and worship.

We won't see a lot of songs we sing now, whether in service or cell group, in heaven. Take, for example, United Live's "Take it All":

"Jesus we're living for Your name, never be ashamed of You. Our praise, and all we are today, take take take it all"

In that one chorus, the self is referred to three times ("we", "our", "we") - as many times as Jesus (Jesus, Your, You)! The same goes not only for contemporary songs, but also for hymns, like "Be Thou MY Vision".

The songs we sing therefore deviate from the Revelation model quite abit - while worship in Revelation points to God, the songs we sing often point God to us - there is the danger of having self take precedence over God. While such songs often enable us to express our feelings of love & gratitude to God, and thus have a role to play in worship (after all, my favourite song is "Just Let Me Say", a love song to God), we must always remember that it is all about God, that songs that describe His undilluted (from thinking about oneself) presence, majesty, glory, splendor, power, etc. When worshipping, think of Revelation 4-7!

Worthy is the Lamb
Seated on the throne
Crown You now with many crowns
You reign victorious

High and lifted up
Jesus Son of God
The Darling of Heaven crucified
Worthy is the Lamb
Worthy is the Lamb

Sing to Him a New Song, Play Skillfully

Psalm 33:3 goes: "Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy".

There are three music-related activities that are described in this verse that we can offer to God. We often focus on the last part, 'shout for joy', in that singing in worship to God is the end result of our compositions, arrangements, practices and rehearsals. However, from the verse, these activities are in themselves an offering to God, and we must take them as seriously as we do for worship.

i) Sing to Him a New Song
I believe this refers to compositions we make. This allows us to offer God the results of our creativity, much like how a child might design a drawing for his or her parents. Our compositions are not only acts of creativity, but also personal acts, because we express what we want to say and feel, rather than what another songwriter felt and said before.

To me, creative arrangements of old songs also count under this category. This is because new arrangements inject new life and meaning into old songs, and like before also requires the arranger to offer his or her creative energies unto God.

ii) Play Skillfully
We can also play skillfully as an act of worship for God. Imagine that the president of your country has requested that you play your instrument for him, for perhaps an hour. You would definitely put loads of effort into practice. The same is required for God, except that God is infinitely more important than any person! An excellent God definitely requires our attitude of excellence, and no slipshod work should be permitted.

Also, practicing on our instrument requires a substantial amount of time and effort, and in this way we give our time, time that could be used for maybe computer games and hanging out with our friends, as a sacrifice to God.

I also did a search for the word 'skillfully' in the Bible, and it appears about 4 times only, in Exodus and Leviticus, primarily about weaving garments. In Exodus 28, the priests' waistband is supposed to be 'skillfully woven' (v. 8) in the manner the ephod (another garment) is woven - a garment made of gold, blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and finely twisted linen (v.6). Such a garment must indeed require long hours of effort (especially if your clothes had gold on them!), and years of apprenticeship and experience. As a musician for God, you must also be willing to put in such effort and time to play your best for God.

In summary, singing songs to God is not the only music-related action we can offer to Him; we can also offer our creative energies through personalised compositions and arrangements, as well as sacrifice our time and effort to play skillfully for Him.

Faith + Hope + Love - Hillsong's Latest Album

Album information

Recorded LIVE in March 2009, over 3 weekends and locations, the people of Hillsong Church gathered across our city - in their respective campuses - and then united together as ONE in celebration of an ever good and gracious God. Led by the Hillsong worship team including Darlene Zschech, Reuben Morgan, Joel Houston and Hillsong UNITED this album features 13 songs of FAITH in the midst of personal circumstances, HOPE in Jesus for the future, and LOVE – one for another.

Joel Houston was quoted saying:
"Beyond the sound, the rhythm, the art... beyond the strings, the keys, the melodies... beyond the stage, the set, the lights... are the PEOPLE. Ordinary men, women & children, from all walks of life, in all sorts of circumstances and each one with a unique story to tell. This is the Church... and this is Hillsong's 18th Live praise and worship album 'faith+hope+love'. EveryONE together playing their part and lending their voice to the collective story, OUR story. The prayer is that 'Faith+Hope+Love' will breathe the light, love and freedom of Christ into your life, and continue to give expression to what God is doing in and through PEOPLE all over the Earth."

SATAN - The Fallen Worship Leader

The Bible names three angels - Michael, Gabriel, and Lucifer. The last angel is, of course, better known as Satan. Ps 103:20 tells us that angels are "mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word" - each of these angels represent the various ways we serve God.

Michael is known for being an angel of works, putting into action what is needed to help others ("then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me", Dan 10:13). He is also an angel of warfare ("Michael and his angels fought against the dragon", Rev 12:7), and represents the spiritual battles we fight for others in the community. The second angel is Gabriel, who is known for delivering God's Word. Gabriel is most well known for preparing Mary for Jesus' birth (Luke 1:26-38); he was also called to speak to Daniel about a vision (Dan 8:16).

The last (ex)angel, Lucifer, served God in worship, like many of us. I find it quite uncomfortable to be compared with the devil, but the truth is that we we need to keep on our toes against vanity and pride.

Ezekiel 28:12-14 tells us that Lucifer was a beautiful creature:
"You were the model of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.. every precious stone adorned you... Your settings and mountings were made of gold; You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones".

In the same way, musicians can look quite good on stage, and do get quite abit of attention from their friends. I do get abit of 'fame' in church, from people recognising (recognising, not admiring!) me from playing the guitar. When I meet friend's friends in church, I'm always introduced as the guy who plays the guitar on stage, like its something cool.

The attention can get to one's head, as was with the devil:
"Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor" (Eze 28:17).

Satan himself has walked down the path of pride, and tempting people into self-glorification could very well be his most powerful weapon against us. After all, it was what led to the first sin and the separation between man and God. As a result, musicians are very exposed to his temptations. We must guard our hearts and minds, and constantly walk down the path of humility. We must also see ourselves not as musicians, or worse, rock stars, but first and foremost servants of the Lord.

Look forward not to your friends' praises, but to the Lord's delight in you. James 4:10 tells us to "humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you". Imagine finally coming before the throne of God - seeing His glory, we prostrate in unworthiness before Him. Yet, God comes to us, brings us back to our feet, and tells us that He is proud of us, for putting Him before our pride. Just as Ps 84:10 writes that "better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere", better is one word of praise from the Lord than to have fame amongst the multitudes.

On a more practical level, here are two tips:
  • The small things matter. There's alot of 'menial' work in the ministry, like hauling amps and mixers around. You might also feel reluctant to serve for smaller services, like prayer meetings. Take up your cross and serve in these areas wholeheartedly.
  • Deflect & avoid attention. Sometimes, my friends say I 'perform' on stage. I usually tell them, light-heartedly of course, that I prefer to use the word 'serving'. Also, don't do anything that gets you too much attention on stage, e.g. running to the front during a guitar solo.
Do drop a comment if you've more to share!

------

To add - many of you were wondering if its a problem if you jump around etc. out of a sincere heart of worship to the Lord. 1 Sam 16:7 says that "The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart". As the Lord looks at your heart of worship, rest assured your actions are fine.

But you will also need to consider how this affects the congregation. Certain actions, like jumping wildly or bombastic solos, could distract worshippers. 1 Cor 10:32 tells us: "do not cause anyone to stumble". We should abide by this, and ensure that while our hearts might be right with God, we should not be a distraction to others.

MS PowerPoint 2007 - Lyrics Over Continuous Animation (Repost)

Did you ever know about EasyWorship? It is a presentation software used in many churches to replace powerpoint because of its flexibility in the worship services - one feature is animated background over lyrics. EasyWorship costs $399.00.
MS PowerPoint is a very powerful and professional presentation software used by many business professionals and individuals BUT PowerPoint is not really intended for use in the worship session. I will get you right in the track where my article should be - PowerPoint cannot overlay text over an inserted video in a slide. BUT there's a way where you can use PowerPoint like EasyWorship's lyrics over animations and no need to buy an extensive software to do that 'coz all are free. Just follow the steps that I will give.
Why use animated background?
Animated backgrounds in worship simulate the senses of the worshipers. The more energetic the animation is, the more energetic the music is being interpreted by the worshipers. It is also a great background effects for the music and it is just simple as ABC's.

Things you'll need:

1. PowerPoint 2007 (recommended, can be 2003)
2. OfficeOne TransparentShow (download here)
3. Winamp (download here)
4. Dual monitor CPU (learn how here)
5. Some music file/s
The theory:
To play the visualizations of Winamp behind a transparent slide with an opaque lyrics without interfering continuous play of the background (visualization). I chose the music visualization because it's very dynamic and is a great background for the lyrics as well as great effects for the music.
Here's how:
1. PowerPoint setup
First, download TransparentShow (the link is provided above) and install it. Open PowerPoint 2007 (I really recommend PowerPoint 2007 because of its versatility and you can add outlines in an ordinary text in a textbox unlike in 2003 it cannot. Outlines will help the lyrics stand out of the animation as the animation may blur the lyrics) then click on the office button (located at the upper-left corner of the window) the click on PowerPoint options at the bottom part of the menu. On the PowerPoint options dialog box, click on Add-ins. There's a drop-down list that will appear on the bottom page with "manage" at the left of it, click on the drop-down menu and click PowerPoint add-ins and click go. A dialog box will appear. Click on add new and then open the TransparentShow add-in and then load it. Open the PowerPoint Options again and then make sure that the "Show developer tab in the ribbon" option is checked. Click on ok. Click on the developer tab on the ribbon and then click on Macro security. A dialog box will appear. Make sure to check the "enable all macros" option. Your transparent slides are now ready to be used.
Screenshot of TransparentShow
After loading TransparentShow add-in in PowerPoint, select Slide Show and select the secondary monitor in the drop down menu "Show presentation on". After all, select Slide Show >Start Transparent Show... menu item. This dialog box enables you to select the Transparent color and start the slide show through the Start Show button.

Click the Save Settings button to save the transparent color setting with the presentation itself. This allows you to start a slide show directly from Windows and make it transparent without going through the Transparent Show dialog box. Please save the presentation after dismissing the TransparentShow dialog box after click the Save Settings button.

This will be the effect of TransparentShow. As you can see the desktop is behind the slide text. The color I used for the transparency is set to GREEN: 255, RED: 0, BLUE: 0. The display is currently on a single monitor computer because my computer at home is not a dual monitor setup. You'll get my point as we go on.
If you followed all the instructions above, you will get the same results on your second monitor (which is your LCD projector).

2. Setting-up WINAMP

Winamp's MilkDrop visualizations are the best visualizations we can use for the dual monitor setup and it can be played as desktop mode (not full-screen mode). The desktop mode feature of the MilkDrop visualizations is different from the full-screen mode because desktop mode displays its visualizations as a desktop wallpaper and you can see your taskbar and icons over it if you played it on the primary monitor. This is the tool we will use to create our non-looping continuous animated background.

1.) Change the Winamp skin to Winamp Modern to save more space and the interface is easier to use than the Bento skin.

2.) Start the MilkDrop plug-in by selecting Options>Visualization>Select Plug-in... (or ctrl+k) then select the MilkDrop plug-in. Click START.

3.) Configure the MilkDrop plug-in to set it up for dual monitor presentation mode (that's what I call it). To do this simply go to Options>Visualizations>Configure plug-in... On the common settings tab set the monitor output of the desktop mode settings to your secondary monitor (which is the LCD projector). You will see a drop-down menu there to change monitors. Then uncheck "integrate with winamp skin" on the window settings. Make sure that the "VJ Mode" and "Save CPU" options are checked.

Then on the ARTIST TOOLS tab uncheck the "Automatically show song title..." checkbox. You can also try your own settings depending on the way you like it.

4.) Playing the visualization. Now play a music file in Winamp because you cannot play the visualization if there's no file being played and make sure to mute the Winamp volume. After playing the file press ctrl+shift+k to bring out the visualization interface. Now you will see two windows for the visualization: the visualization window and the MilkDrop console (VJ mode). Don't worry if the MilkDrop console displays nothing but black, just press "L" and the preset (visualizations for MilkDrop) list will show up. in the preset list you can select your favorite visualizations. Don't forget to turn the SCROLL LOCK key on so that the preset will be locked and will not change after time (a text will appear after the preset name if it is already locked). Don't worry if the preset is locked because you can still manually change the preset by selecting another preset, it will just turn off automatic preset changing. You already played the visualization in a small window, now it's time to set all up.

5.) THE SHOW. Now after doing all that all you need to do is to use both programs for the animated worship presentation. Now go to the Winamp visualization and press alt+D and watch the visualization play on the other monitor (LCD projector). The MilkDrop console will be your control panel at the other monitor so you can change the animations/presets without interfering with the ongoing presentation. Make sure that the animation is not too distracting for the eyes because it may be the center of attraction in the worship session, remember that we are doing this to improve the worship experience of of the congregation and not to suppress the flow of the Holy Spirit, choose only the good presets. After playing the animation you can now use the PowerPoint presentation with the transparent background to overlay the animation. Just start the show on the second monitor (LCD projector) and watch the text go over with the animation. Even if you switch the slides your background will not restart its animation. (I have no screen shot for this because I am writing this article on a single monitor set up).

Feel free to ask your questions. I will reply.

God bless!!!
